Common Brake Problems

Common Brake Problems

When you think of automotive service, you might think about technicians in uniform providing any number of services to make sure a car runs reliably. But being able to stop your vehicle is just as important as making it go. In Scranton, many motorists come to our automotive service center for brake repair and maintenance.

Because the brake system is essential to safety and one of our specialties, we thought we'd take a few minutes to write about common problems we see and how you can tell when your brakes require service.

3 Brake Warning Signs

Keep an eye (or ear) out for:

  • Abnormal Noise (grinding, screeching, or squeaking)
  • Decreased Performance (vehicle not stopping as quickly)
  • Brake Dashboard Warning Light
  • Brake Pedal Problems (Hard to push down or pushes down too far)

Catching a problem early and getting replacement brake pads and rotors when you need them is better than waiting. It's important that your brakes always offer dependable and safe performance.

Common Brake Problems

Your brake performance may change for a number of reasons. Here are some of the most common problems we get in Scranton:

  • Brake Noise
  • Worn Brake Pads or Rotors
  • Collapsed Hose or Uneven Brake Pads (can cause pulling)

Be aware that you'll need to replace the brake pads and rotors during the life of your vehicle. Replacement intervals vary and depend on how often you brake along with the quality of the parts. Check your owner's manual for more information, or request a brake check during your next service.
